Tucked away in the bustling Xujiahui area, the newly renovated SJTU Bookstore was officially open to visitors in recent days on Panyu Road, a quiet lane dotted with paulownia trees, adding a cultural spot for reading and learning to this area.
The SJTU Bookstore is divided into 2 main zones: the ground floor is a complex zone for reading, relaxation and shopping; the first floor is an activity zone. The store boasts about 10,000 books in Chinese and foreign languages, covering a wide range of topics from literature to science. Representative works by old and new writers are easily found, and books by SJTU scholars and alumni draw the visitor’s attention occasionally. You can even order a cup of coffee at the coffee bar to accompany your reading.
From the beginning of the project, the SJTU Bookstore was constructed particularly on two keywords: culture and experience. Going forward, SJTU Bookstore will continue to build an open, diverse and inclusive public space. Taking advantage of its design, the Bookstore will hold cultural activities such as symposiums, salons and exhibitions in high frequency for the purpose of constructing a cultural platform through which the development of Shanghai Jiao Tong University can be integrated into that of nearby communities.
