On Nov. 2nd, Leibniz University Hannover (Germany) Vice-President (international affairs) Prof. Teresa Carlomagno visited School of Life Sciences and Biotechnology (SLSB), SJTU. Vice-Dean of SLSB Prof. Yan FENG and Prof. Xiaojun ZHANG, as well as Prof. Ilya Vinnokov, Prof .Zhiping XIE and other faulty members welcomed her visit.
During Prof. Carlomagno’s visit, both sides exchanged basic background in discipline construction, student training, scientific research teams and international collaboration in the life sciences area of the two universities. The two universities would have a solid foundation to start scientific research cooperation in the fields of structural biology, natural product drugs, biochemistry, microbiology and medicine since there is much in common. The two universities also share similar philosophy in faculty training and international collaboration, which helps to build strong bond between the two. Several initiatives were made by Prof. Carlomagno and Prof. Feng, such as more frequent faculty visits, and short-term student exchange programs. Prof. Feng and Prof. Carlomagno reached an agreement on having a joint academic seminar in near future. The two sides had warm exchanges and looked forward to future cooperation.
Leibniz Universität Hannover (aka Universität Hannover) is one of the oldest universities in Germany. It was founded in 1831 and is now a member of TU9, an association of the nine leading Institutes of Technology in Germany, and a CESAER member (Conference of European Schools for Advanced Engineering Education and Research, a non-profit association of leading engineering universities in Europe). It is one of the most modern and visionary universities in Germany.
